England Rugby Player Tom Voyce Presumed Dead

Tom Voyce, a former England rugby player, is feared dead after his car was swept away by a river in Northumberland. The 43-year-old, who earned nine caps for England and played for clubs like Bath, Wasps, and Gloucester, went missing after an evening with friends on Saturday.

Car Swept Away by River

Police believe Voyce tried to cross Abberwick Ford in his car, about three miles from Alnwick. The strong river current carried his car away. While the car was later recovered, Voyce himself is still missing. Authorities think he was carried downstream while trying to escape the vehicle.

Police and Family Statements

Chief Superintendent Helena Barron called the incident a tragic loss and sent condolences to Voyce’s family. Police have been supporting his loved ones during this difficult time. His wife, Anna, and family thanked the police, friends, and the community for their efforts.

However, the police have asked the public not to carry out their own searches, stressing the need for safety and professional assistance.

The Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service sent teams to help with the search. They secured the car and provided equipment like portable lighting. Volunteers from the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue team also joined the efforts alongside family and friends.

A Rugby Career Remembered

Tom Voyce played for Wasps from 2003 to 2009, helping the team win major championships. He later joined Gloucester and retired in 2013 after making 220 Premiership appearances.The rugby community is mourning the loss of a talented player and a beloved teammate.
