Two women were sent to the hospital after a shocking fairground ride crash in Birmingham city center. The City Star Flyer, a 55-meter-high attraction in Centenary Square, suddenly dropped to the ground on Thursday night, leaving many in shock and prompting a swift response from emergency services.

Arrests Made at the Scene

Two men, aged 55 and 21, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of obstructing officers and perverting the course of justice. West Midlands Police confirmed that both remain in custody as investigations into the incident continue.

Emergency Response and Medical Aid

West Midlands Ambulance Service reported that 13 people were assessed at the scene. Two women were treated for injuries, which were not considered serious, and were taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. Nine women and three men received medical attention and were discharged after being advised on self-care.

Witness Describes the Incident

Louise Brown, a BBC worker in Birmingham who was injured, described the terrifying moment the ride failed. “We were having fun, and then it just crashed,” she said. Brown sustained injuries to her face, legs, and arms. “It went backward first, which I’ve never seen it do before, and then dropped. I keep thinking, what if my kids were on the ride?”

Safety Investigation Underway

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Specialists are working with local authorities to assess the ride and ensure such accidents don’t happen again. “We understand the concerns and are fully committed to finding out what went wrong,” an HSE spokesperson said.

Operator Declines to Comment

Danter Attractions, the operator of the City Star Flyer, has not made any public statements about the incident. The ride remains closed and cordoned off as authorities conduct their investigation.

This incident has raised serious questions about safety standards at public attractions, highlighting the importance of strict monitoring and maintenance to prevent future accidents.
